The Bully Glasses

Experience bullying in virtual reality

3D 180 video

Experience bullying with virtual reality.

Explaining what it is like to be bullied is difficult if your target group has never been bullied themselves. To create more awareness for this, the EO (Evangelical Broadcasting) in the Netherlands has made a television program for children. The goal: use VR to let children experience what it is like to be bullied and then start a conversation about it.
Cinemersive was involved in the technical implementation of the 3D 180 degree video project during pre-production, production and post production.

The production of The Bully Glasses

In partnership with Mediawan Skyhigh and under the commission of the Evangelische Oproep (Evangelical Broadcaster, a public broadcast network in the Netherlands), Cinemersive filmed eight powerful bullying scenarios, all based on real-life experiences. The authenticity of these scenarios amplifies the project’s impact, making it’s message even more resonant and compelling.

The Bully Glasses scenarios were filmed with a unique approach where the actors direct their bullying behavior straight into the camera, placing you in the position of the person being bullied. Viewing these scenarios in VR intensifies the immersion, making the experience profoundly realistic. The inescapable nature of the bullying within this virtual environment heightens the emotional impact, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer.

Technicalities

Cinemersive played a pivotal role in the immersive video production of this project. In the pre-production phase, we provided expert guidance on the best practices and potential pitfalls of crafting such immersive scenarios. During filming, we managed the crew to ensure smooth and efficient production. In post-production, we meticulously edited the footage to maximize its impact, ensuring that every detail contributes to a truly immersive experience.

The Bully Glasses was filmed using a 180-degree dual fisheye lens, specifically designed to create a realistic 3D effect comparable of what you experience in a high-end cinema. Paired with a camera capable of capturing 8K resolution at 60 frames per second, this setup guarantees the highest possible quality. The synergy of these advanced techniques delivers an exceptionally immersive and lifelike experience, transporting the viewer directly into the heart of the scene.

Client Reviews

It is remarkable to see. Sometimes the themes resonate so strongly with people, that they emerge from the VR headset incredibly emotional. We can only achieve this if the videos are of the highest quality.
